Arnside Tourism

...

Arnside has evolved since Victorian times as a much loved tourist destination. Its fine setting on the Kent estuary, walks around the Knott and the peaceful promenade shops and houses have made it popular ever since the railway arrived in the mid-1800's. As part of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a protected home to a wonderful variety of wildlife. The archive contains many photographs of tourists enjoying Arnside as well as guides and magazines describing the attractions to be found here.

Stephen Caunce, a local oral historian, has written an article about the history of tourism in Arnside - you can read it here

You can also listen to him talking about this topic as he describes the key points in the history of tourism in Arnside.
